Education
If we compare with the possibilities that we have today with 20 years ago, we can see a very big difference, and the educational possibilities have also change very much. A quote from Edexcel GCE in Applied ICT made by Trevor Heathcote and Steve Farell, “The impact of ICT in education has been variable, but is destined to grow a great deal over the coming decade as many programmes come to fruition or maturity.” You traditionally go in school from when you are age 4 to 18 and after that you can go into higher education.
Many people think that new technology is just positive for the education but it can bring some very bad problems to the people that use the new technology. For example in Sweden some schools give you a computer so that you can have it as a working computer in school, and at home. This makes it easier for you to send in your school work to your teachers. The problem is that the computers now days give you access too many things that can distract you from your work. They good thing is that you can bring your work home and you don’t need to write everything on paper. For 20 years ago you didn’t have any choice other than to write your work on paper and you could not send you work to your home.
Today if you want to read Swedish from China you can do it, there are schools in Sweden that offer long distance learning. You can for example use programs like First Class to do a Swedish course online; you could not do that for 20 years ago. So this is a very positive thing that new technology has provided to us that are in our education age. The problems are that all this new technology is very expensive and a lot of schools can’t afford to buy the new technology to the schools. 1996 was the time when Hotmail started and it was at that time many people in education started to use Hotmail for school work and have contact with school. This was a great opportunity for the students but when the costs are high many students can’t afford to buy a computer.
There was no internet when my father were is school in the 1970s and 1980s, but he got a computer 1982 and it was the first Apple computer. He used the computer to do school work, painting programs, basic programming, and word programs to write documents and design programs. The technology has been getting better as the time past on. He didn´t have any internet when he was in school. He did say that internet reached to schools in Sweden in around year 2000. So everyone that didn’t go in school before 2000 in Sweden missed lots of things that we can do today like searching for things on the internet for and the students that went to school before the 1969 didn´t have the possibility to use the first Apple computer and use that in their education.
